Method limitations

The calculator is intended to implement the calculated methane number method described in ISO 17507-1. A calculated methane number is a model result based on the method, its input requirements, and its stated or implied limitations. It is not a guarantee of actual engine behaviour.

Gas components that are not included in the calculation method, or effects outside the method such as water vapour, oxygen handling, operating conditions, engine design, control strategy, contaminants, measurement uncertainty, and fuel treatment, may affect real knocking behaviour or practical suitability even when two gases have the same calculated methane number.

Independent verification required

Before relying on any result for engineering, operational, contractual, regulatory, safety-critical, financial, or other consequential decisions, you must verify the result by independent means and, where relevant, by a qualified professional, accredited laboratory, approved software, or the applicable official standard.

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the creator, operator, contributors, and affiliates of this site shall not be liable for any direct or indirect loss, economic loss, loss of profit, loss of revenue, business interruption, loss of data, contractual loss, operational loss, property damage, personal injury, consequential damage, special damage, punitive damage, or any other loss or damage arising from use of, inability to use, or reliance on this site or its results.
